ENTRIES have opened for the 12th Wellington Fringe Film Festival, which will be held from July 12 to 16.

Festival spokeswoman Victoria Spackman said films should be limited to 20 minutes.

The highlight of last year's festival was a documentary about The Gathering music and dance festival in Nelson, which was watched by 800 people.

The festival is also calling for entries to the Special Competition - films with a maximum time of five minutes, which must have a theme of, or mention, the Maori word for water, wai - and a music video category.

Entries for the music category close at the end of June, for short films on May 28, and for competition films on June 4.
